How Science Works

Before we delve right into Evolution, we must first examine science itself and how exactly science works.

Science is easily defined as a way of knowing and learning about the true reality of the natural world we live in. Scientific knowledge is accumulated by means of observation and analysis of data which in turn has the ability to be confirmed or proven false by others who observe and analyzed the data.

What we humans define as scientific "facts", refer to any natural phenomenon that can be repeatedly confirmed by observation and analysis of data. For example, it is a scientific "fact" that the Earth's distance from the Sun is a 63,000th of a light year.

A "hypothesis" is any possible statement about a natural phenomenon that has the ability to be tested for confirmation! A hypothesis is not merely guesswork on "steroids"! What makes a hypothesis a "hypothesis" (meaning scientific) is it's ability to be tested for confirmation.

A "scientific theory" describes any well substantiated explanation of natural world phenomenon that incorporates confirmed observations, inference from evidence and successfully verified hypotheses! A scientific theory, is not something that is still "waiting" for confirmation.

Science is an ongoing, never ending process of progress. It is an equal oppurtunity field with clearly defined processes. Science normally manifests itself in the natural human endeavor of:

asking questions

making careful observations

collecting data

creating a statement (hypothesis) that has the ability to be tested for confirmation

testing the hypothesis

analyzing and scrutinizing data oberved from testing the hypothesis

accepting or rejecting the hypothesis

revising the hypothesis (if need be based on new evidence)

coming up with an explanation that describes consisitent findings when testing the hypothesis and linking them to pre-existing knowledge

telling others about your findings and having them objectively review what you have done.

The natural goal of science is the natural goal of humanity as a species. That being to get a deeper understanding of ourselves and the world we live in. The process of science determines causality and then creates the most logical explanation that must be consistent with the uniformity of expereince and data collected. Scientific explanations use only natural phenomenon, never the supernatural!

The uniformity of experience basically tells us that the same "ways and laws" that the Earth and Universe operate "by and with" today, are the same "ways and laws" that it has been operating with!

Science is an ongoing never ending process of progress. Each new discovery opens the door(s) for more science and scientific research.
